The three-day festival of both professional and sports fishermen became a modern annual tradition in Vodňany in 1991. The town of Vodňany, The Secondary Fisheries School and the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology are its main guarantors. The programme includes two-day Czech ichthyological conference for the experts from both the Czech Republic and abroad. The exhibition Fishtech serves to the exhibitors or exhibiting firms to introduce and show their products for fish farming and sports fishing. It is possible to learn about the activities of different fishing institutions and to watch the presentation of the town and local firms. This exhibition is alternated by the film show called Fishfilm every second year. The programme usually doesn´t miss theatre performances, art and museum exhibitions and especially Friday gathering with music. On Saturday there is the open day of The Secondary Fisheries School for public and the town square is filled up with the stalls with both fish and sweet delicacies. At the market you can watch handicraft skills, skills of cooks and other different tradesmen. Vodňany Fishing Days are the good opportunity for meeting of fishermen, scientists, graduates of the school, tradesmen, visitors and friends of the town.
